What is the best season to do Everest Base Camp Trek?

Everest Base camp trek can be done at any month of the year. However, we highly recommend you to do a trek between September and May. Generally, from June onwards until the end of August it’s Monsoon season with lots of rain showers and unpredictable weather.

What I will be paying extra during the Trek?

Well, your meals and accommodation are already included in your program. However, there are certain things you need to pay for such as Drinks, Wifi, Hot Shower, Electronic Devices charging, etc. From our previous experience with our hikers, you may be spending US$ 15 to US$ 20 Per day but depending on your expenses. You better carry Nepalese Ruppess along the trail. You can exchange in Kathmandu.

Do I need to have Special training to do this Everest Base Camp Trek?

Trekking to Everest Base Camp is a journey of a lifetime. The trip is physical but you have to be mentally prepared. You do not need to have Special training or Qualified but make sure you are able to walk 5 to 6 hours each day. We suggest you do regular Exercise and hiking before you come to Nepal for few weeks.

How long does it take to hike to Everest Base Camp?

In general, it is 11 Days total hiking from Lukla to Lukla including 2 Rest days during the trip. (8 Days going and 3 Days coming down.) There is a daily flight from Lukla to Kathmandu. So the total days of the trip from Kathmandu to Kathmandu are 12 Days. We have offer you Everest Base Camp -14 Days trip package from your arrival til departure.

How difficult Everest Base Camp Trek is?

It is remarked as a moderate trek which is not very difficult and not also easy. The trail goes slightly up which is easier compare to Annapurna Base Camp.

Is there any age limit to do Everest Base Camp Trek?

No, there is no age limit but you should be physically healthy, fit, and able to trek.

How do I avoid altitude sickness?

Few tips to avoid altitude sickness. No Cigarette or alcohol while going up. Walk slowly. Drink 4 Ltrs water per day. Do not skip acclimatization day. Do not take Diamox before you feel something.

How often people get altitude sickness?

Actually, nobody knows who may get altitude Sick because altitude sickness is very unpredictable. Sometimes our Local Guides and Porter also get suffered from it. Let’s say 95% of trekkers do this Everest Base Camp Trek successfully.

How long does it take Heli flight from Gorakshep to Lukla?

It is about 8 to 10 minutes flight. Sometimes flights may be delayed due to weather.

What is the packinglimit on the plane to Lukla?

Lukla Flight allows you only 15 kg including your hand carry. So please you can leave all unnecessary kinds of stuff in Kathmandu which you do not need during trekking. The hotel has a store Room.

What kind of weather can I expect during trekking? How cold does it get?

It depends on which month you are doing this trek. If you are doing it in winter can be less than -15C outside at night. Daytime is warm while walking. In general from September to January and March until June is the best time to do this hike.

Are there WI-FI available during trek?

Yes, there is Wi-Fi but not as strong as in the city. You will need to pay extra, USD 3-5 will be charged per device for unlimited use.

How can I charge my phones and camera? Is there any charging facility?

Yes, you can charge your phones and other gadgets at the tea houses with charges ranging from USD3- USD 5 per device. Normally the charging point is located at the tea house’s reception counter.

What kind of accomodation we can have during trek?

You will have a basic Lodge which is also known as Tea Houses. You will get a private twin sharing room throughout the trek but sometimes at Gorakshep, our last destination can be crowded during peak season. So with limited Tea Houses, it might be chances to share rooms with the others. However, rest assured that we will try our best to provide our clients with the best option.

Is there heating system available inside the room?

No, you will not have a heating system in your room. However, the fireplace is available in the common dining area.

DoI need Insurance for this trek? Where I can make?

Yes, you need to have good Insurance for trekking. You can buy in your own Country. Please make sure your Insurance Covers Emergency Evacuation and Hospital. A credit card or sufficient cash (approximately USD 3000 - 5000) is required for any emergency evacuation by the Helicopter should the insurance company fails to arrange the Helicopter.

DoI need to bring medicine for Everest Base Camp Trek?

Yes, we encourage you to bring your own medicine from home like the ones we provide might be different which might not be suitable for you.

What happen if I get sick in the Mountain?

General headaches and coughs are very common in the mountain. But if you feel very sick then you have to stop to ascend and proceed to make your way down to lower altitude. The representative of Scenic Nepal Treks will be kept in touch with your guide for the entire trip.

Is it necessary to have Acclimatization Day during trek? How many days?

Yes, it is important to have acclimatizaon day during the trek. This is to allow your body to adapt to the rising altitude. 2 Days is sufficient for a 12 Days Everest Base Camp trek.

Is there laundry facility during trek at hotel?

No laundry service during the trek. You may do your laundry at Kathmandu after the trek.

Is drinking water easily available during trek? How safe it is to drink tap's water?

You can refill your water at the Lodge or restaurant. It is very safe to drink. Optionally you can also have tap water with purification tablets. Refilling water will cost you about US$ 2 to US$ 5.

Should I tip to guide and porter? If yes, how much it should be?

Tipping is not compulsory, but they do expect it from you. You can give them whatever amount that you feel comfortable with the quality of services they had provided throughout the trek. They sure will be enlightened with the token of appreciation from you.

How is toilet and rooms facility during Everest Base Camp Trek?

You will have western-style sharing toilets at 80 % of the places. You will have a private twin sharing Room which you will be using with your/Group partner. Please expect a very basic Room with 2 beds.

What are the meals provided during trek? Is western food available during trekking to Everest Base Camp?

Yes! You can have western meals during the trek. Scenic Nepal Treks will provide you 3 meals ( Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner) and you can choose by menu. All the Tea house/Lodge offers you Western, Indian, and Nepalese Dishes. However Nepalese Dalbaht ( Rice & Curry) is the best.

What is the shortest duration of Everest Base Camp Trek?

If you have limited time, the EBC trek can be shortened to 10 days from Kathmandu to Kathmandu. However, if you would like to take a helicopter down which can make your trip within 9 days from Kathmandu. It is highly recommended to have 14 Days Everest Base Camp trip if you are able to make it.

What is the maximum altitude we get to?

Everest Base Camp is located at 5,360 meters. However, for those who wish to set their foot on Kalapthhar, you will be reaching 5,500 meters and that will be the highest point for you with the best view of Mount Everest. Please do take note that you will not be able to see Mt Everest from Everest Base Camp.

Physical Condition & Experience Requirements

Everest View Trek is known as trekking of Queens in the Everest region. Literally, this is the hike for very beginner hiker who has strong willing to see the Beauty of Mount Everest with their naked Eyes but they are not ready to go up to Everest Base Camp. You do not need to have special training on this trip. We would suggest you do some easy hikes before you come to Nepal. You have to be physically fit and make sure that you are able to make 4/5 hours of easy walk.

The best tour and trekking company you could ever find, even in a crisis or two or three

This will be a long review because you need to know how incredible Scenic Nepal Treks truly is.

I contacted Dipendra, the head of the company, months in advance to arrange a 12-day trip for a group of friends to celebrate my husband's and my 60th birthdays. All of us going was older than the average young trekkers and we wanted certain hotels and amenities that Dipendra arranged perfectly.

Every single guide and porter were fantastic. They were attentive, kind, considerate, strong and smart. Our lead Sherpa was Shankar, who is highly experienced and knows the trails in detail. He also makes a pretty amazing apple pie. His son, Unish, was one of our porters and played a huge role in our trek. Our other guide was Manju, a young graduate student fluent in English who knows all of the history and facts about the country and its sites. She led us on a number of cultural tours in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Pokhara and she is wonderful.

But here is why you should book with Scenic Nepal. Beyond what many other tour operators usually provide - good guides and porters, Nepali generosity, etc - this company went above and beyond when our friends went through various health crises.

Three of the nine folks in our group ended up getting COVID in the first couple of days of our trip. Dipendra arranged for all of their needs to be met. He rebooked hotels, arranged for travel, etc. Dipendra was available 24/7 and kept everyone calm during this stressful time.

The six of us left and then started the trek - we were doing Poon Hill - when another member of our group fell very ill. It wasn’t COVID or altitude, but it was very serious. Shankar immediately arranged to get our friend down the mountain and to the hospital in Pokhara and had his son stay with our friend. Dipendra then arranged a helicopter to MediVac him to Kathmandu and met him at the airport to take him straight to the hospital. Dipendra visited him at least once a day in the five days he was in the hospital.

And while dealing with all of our crises, Dipendra, Shankar, Manju, Unish, and the other staff had positive attitudes and smiles on their faces. They are our heroes!

I also want to note how important it is to book with a Nepali-owned company. Many westerners (often Americans) book with REI or big travel companies because they think they are safer or more reliable. They spend easily 3-4 times the amount of money, most of which never makes it to Nepal. But I want to tell you that we could not have asked for a better trekking company. They always made sure we were safe and comfortable. We literally have not a single complaint about them.

I strongly urge you to use Scenic Nepal. At the age of 60, I thought this would be my last trek. But I am already planning another one in a few years and will definitely use Scenic Nepal. They were extraordinary despite the many challenges we faced.

Most of all, we have become friends with all of them and we look forward to staying in touch over the years. We played card games at night with them and shared stories and laughs.

An Amazing Trip with Amazing People

I was part of a group from New Zealand called Got To Get Out who attempted EBC and Island Peak in January 2020.
We were taken care of from the start by Dipendra and our amazing guides Shankar, Kumar, Jagat, Buddhi, and our mountain guides. This was my second time to EBC with Scenic Nepal Treks and with Shankar as a guide, he is a very positive, smiling guy who will take care of you and even make you smile and laugh when you’re feeling terrible from the altitude.

Although we didn’t make it up to the top of Island Peak because of the weather, we had an amazing time with incredible views and felt very safe in the hands of the team guiding us (one of our mountain guides, Tashi, have been up to the top of Everest 10 times!!) They taught us how to ice climb which we take with us as a very good experience for the next attempt to climb a mountain! They really went the extra mile for us to make sure we were okay at all times and gave us a hand when we got tired.

Best designed trip ever

Everest base camp trek has to be on every trekker's bucket list. I got to experience this during October 2019. I did the Everest Base Camp trek with Scenic Nepal Trek solo and had an overall good experience. Everything is organized for you by Scenic Nepal Trek from transport to permits to accommodation etc. My guide KK was very friendly, knowledgeable, organized, helpful, and patient. I had my itinerary changed a bit during the trek (due to no accommodation in a certain village, better acclimatization plan, etc) but this is to the benefit of myself.

I was walking very slow after 4500m so thank you for the patience :) I had a bit of altitude sickness coming down from Everest base camp and was taken care of by a guide without any issues! We also played lots of cards during downtime during our trek. Also thanks to Dipendra very friendly and helped answer lots of my question prior to my trek and very organized and helpful

Most amazing experience

This trip had been 4 years in the making. had actually gotten to know Rajan and Dipendra through a friend's friend recommendation.

I can only say that they are so patient with me over the years (yes years!) in the multiple failed attempts that I had to get myself to Nepal.
Well, this year, it finally came true and with the trusty hands of Dipendra and my absolutely wonderful guide KK, I had the most amazing trip of my life! Dipendra made sure that anything and everything will go well, from the airport pick-ups to the hotel accommodation to the arrangements to be made during the trek. He was able and very willing to help me with my numerous changes along the way and I knew that all I needed was to ask and he will help me fulfill my requests.

And then there is KK, my super guide. Right from day 1, he gave me the assurance and the feeling that I will be very well taken care of and he definitely did. Way above my expectations. When I just mentioned to him that I think I need a porter halfway while trekking, he found me one in 30 minutes! How amazing was that! KK always made sure that he's either walking beside me or behind me to make sure that I am ok all the way, even if I was slow, he very patiently waited for me.

And then there's the trek. The most amazing country, landscapes, and people. I've run out of words to explain but this is definitely a must-do for all travelers and of all ages.

One of the Most Rewarding Experience of My Life

I recently did the 14 day Everest base camp trek in July 2018 with my friend. Everything ran super smooth from the moment we were picked up from the airport to when it was time to say our goodbyes. Our guide was Rajan who spoke English really well and understood everything we asked of him. He was compassionate and knowledgeable as well as friendly. Our Porter was KK, he was always smiling even though we were certain our bags were no light load and his English was exceptional also. Finally, Dipendra organized not only our EBC trek but also organized a 6-day motorbike tour for us after our trek at a great price.

As far as the trek was concerned all I can say is this is a MUST DO bucket list item. The food was authentic and plentiful, the scenery was beautiful and constantly changing and the accommodation was comfortable and cozy. I have found my new favorite country!

No One Bettter Than Scenic Nepal Trek

The trip is an experience I will never forget and recommend everyone do. Incredible views, gorgeous people, beautiful mountains and rivers. Our guide Rajan and our porter Rajan were incredible and it felt like a family in the mountains rather than a tour. I am forever thankful for the memories of sharing hot tea in the tearooms or biscuits overlooking the most unbelievable views. Even when the altitude sickness started to effect myself our guide Rajan certainly knew what he was doing and had all the appropriate equipment for the situation. The Himalaya's are no doubt beautiful and there is no way you could compare the experience of trekking on the land through monstrous giants. The people are so genuine and the trip felt so wholesome, the best experience I have ever had whilst traveling.

Yes, it is 100% possible to go trekking in winter. It is cold but not unbearable if you have the right equipment, the sleeping bags provided were amazingingly toasty. In fact walking through the snow was breathtaking and I couldn't have hoped for it any other way.

Thank you Dipendra for you patience with my endless questions, for taking care of my concerns and making me feel so welcomed in Nepal. Rajan for looking after me in the mountains and making us feel like family. Very grateful and wouldn't recommend this tour company enough. I will definitely be coming back one day!
